M&S Engineering of Spring Branch is the realization of a dream of two lifelong friends who believed they could build a successful full service engineering firm despite heavy competition from established competitors. They planned to do this by providing quality, efficient engineering at the lowest possible cost by eliminating expensive overhead associated with other engineering firms.
Brian Meuth and Keith Strimple began discussing the possibility of going into business together in their mid to upper 30s and eventually managed to quit their jobs and start M&S Engineering. The company, formed in May of 1999, started with Meuth and Strimple and now employs over 65 people with engineers, surveyors, land planners, design technicians, and CAD operators working out of 20,000 feet of office space including a historic renovated schoolhouse.
The company offers civil engineering, surveying, hydrology, electrical engineering, mechanical and plumbing design, roadway design, reservoir design and other services. M&S Engineering has designed reservoirs, roadways, electrical transmission lines, electrical distribution lines, electrical substations, subdivisions, land development and any other services you would expect from a full-service engineering firm.
The company, which has a branch office in McQueeney to more adequately meet its clients’ needs in the Guadalupe County area, owes much of its success to employees hired in the early days. They, too, had to have the courage and vision to quit their jobs and work in what was originally a shed on a 23-acre tract of land near Bergheim.
These people were the cornerstone of the company’s success. Lance Schulze, Brenda Griffin, Jason Moseley, Steven Jakob, Bill Newcomer, Josh Demmer, and many others have made the company the success it is today and continue to form the core of the business. They participate in one of the several teams the company has formed that are assigned to the various disciplines of engineering services or specialties.
Team leaders are trained to support, develop relationships and address the daily needs of the clients associated with that team’s work. With this organizational plan, M&S Engineering can continue to grow by adding new teams/divisions or by increasing the size of existing teams/divisions as the need arises and the client base diversifies.
The company’s growth from two to 65 employees is proof of the company’s success and a testament to the high quality of its work as well as its cost effectiveness. The company’s future plans are to grow its business through the same strategy that led it to its current success, and based on its track record it’s reasonable to assume that its future will be as bright as its past. |
