Eagle Ford Shale Distribution Network
EOG Resources, Inc. is a large independent oil and natural gas company that operates in the Eagle Ford Shale play of South Texas. Their lease agreements and operating area covers approximately 700,000 acres through Atascosa, Bee, DeWitt, Duval, Gonzales, Karnes, LaSalle, McMullen, Webb and Wilson Counties. The large geographical area, compressed schedule and oil price economics aligned such that EOG needed to build, own and operate their own electric system to provide service to each oil well. M&S Engineering provided dedicated staff co-located at the EOG offices in San Antonio for the planning, design and construction of their overhead distribution system. The project included design and construction of approximately 90 miles of new 25kV overhead distribution line to serve 8MW of system load throughout the rural areas of South Texas. System protection and downstream relaying schemes for reclosers, circuit switchers, sectionalizers and breakers provided by M&S personnel and closely coordinated with Karnes Electric Cooperative, Medina Electric Cooperative, South Texas Electric Cooperative. M&S provided overhead line design & line staking, easements exhibit preparation, construction specs & bid docs for the contractor, bidding and contractor selection, operating and maintenance, requirements for after the line was constructed, system planning and modeling, construction inspection, contract management, assistance with ROW and routing. Field assistance for protective devices, protection schemes, commissioning and troubleshooting of new and existing protective devices was also included.
